Happy Diwali

Earlier this week, as the Diwali celebrations picked up, Arjun noticed the lights and decorations and for the ease of his understanding his Granny simplified Diwali as the Festival of Lights.

Growing up I’ve heard several stories about Diwali and in each legend, myth, and story lies the significance of the victory of good over evil. It is with each Diwali, the lights that illuminate our homes and hearts, this simple truth finds new reason and hope.

From darkness unto light—the light empowers us to commit ourselves to good deeds and brings us closer to divinity. During Diwali, lights illuminate every corner of India, savories and sweets exchange homes, the scent of incense sticks hangs in the air mingled with the sounds of firecrackers, joy, togetherness, and hope.

This Diwali, even if you are away from the sights and sounds in India, light a Diya (oil lamp), sit quietly, shut your eyes, withdraw the senses, concentrate on this supreme light. May it illuminate your soul!
